Tracy Marlor

I have had a hand in pottery for over 27 years, beginning at just 16 years of age when I took my first pottery class in high school. Pottery captured my interest then and has truly been an integral part of my life ever since.

I grew up in a household where my Mom was always creating something, whether it be beautiful gardens, holiday decorations, hand drawn Christmas cards, or one of a kind birthday cakes, the list goes on, always something in the works. She grew up in a household where her Mom, my Grandmother, did the same. So I guess you could say that my infatuation with art is innate.

A love for nature and the outdoors was also a central part of my youth. We lived and played outside, these were the television and ipod of my generation. Today my love for gardening, the ocean, the colors and beauty of nature are all reflected in my pottery. Natural elements such as leaves, shells, and sea creatures all mirroring the beauty of nature often embellish my pieces. The rich colors of summer flowers, the deep hues of autumn leaves, and the blues of the vast ocean are nature’s pallet and are reproduced in the glazes that grace each piece. Inspiration comes from things as simple as a walk in the woods with my family or along an empty beach, to the people and places that influence my everyday life.

As I have continued my exploration in clay my style has evolved over time and continues to evolve with every new experience life brings me. I am always thrilled and amazed when a piece I create unexpectedly incorporates an experience in my life. Sharing my pottery and seeing the joy it brings to others gives me the inspiration to continue to hone my skills and to try new things. My desire is to produce unique and distinctive pieces that will be used daily and that will bring pleasure every time they are used.

I am currently the Secretary for Expression Pottery Workshop in East Granby, CT where I have also taught classes on and off for almost eight years. In May of 2009 Expressions was featured on CPTV’s show All Things Connecticut, Spotlight on the Arts. I was fortunate to be a part of that production and can be seen throwing at the wheel using this link.
