My watercolor painting is influenced by early studies in Japanese Brush painting and discoveries of the sculptural and spatial effects achieved through the use of a full soft painting brush with water mediums.    Over time I have learned to combine these sculptural and spatial qualities with development of other formal elements of painting such as line, shape, design, color and basic composition.    Recently I have focused on development of a personal point of view with landscape images from my every day life.

Carole Day often paints in 'plein air' as well as in her home studio in North Granby, Connecticut.   She has studied locally with many artists, including Jack Flynn, Bob Noreika and Frank Federico.   For the last several years she participated in critique classes with the late painter and teacher, Paul Zimmerman and most recently with Janice La Motta, of La Motta Gallery in Hartford.

Carole is a juried member of several professional affiliations including the Granby Artists Association, the New Haven Paint and Clay, Connecticut Watercolor Society, Academic Artist Association, the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts, and the Kent Art Association.   She is also an active member of the Avon Arts Association and West Hartford Art League.

Carole participated in Giddy-Up-Granby with her "Farm Around the Horse" at the Holcomb Farm Learning Center.   Recent awards include the Kent Art Association, Award of Excellence--Spring Show 2008, and Kent's Award of Excellence and The Gordon C. Aymar Award for Watercolor (with One-Person 2007 Show Award, September 2007.   Other 2007-2008 awards include the East Granby Library best-in-show prize, annual spring show 2008; and honorable mention award from the Connecticut Watercolor Society Exhibition 2008.   One of her images was also the featured artist for the inaugural Courant iTown cover in 2008.   Most recently, Carole's work has been juried into the New Haven Paint & Clay Club and Academic Artist Association's 2009 juried shows and she taught watercolor painting in the 2009 "Art Is Ageless" Granby Senior Center program.
