ANNE POMEROY DIXON
Off loom beading does not require many tools. A needle, some thread and beads of various sizes and shapes grow to form jewelry or to embellish anything (and everything) that strikes your fancy. There are many stitches - peyote or gourd stitch, herringbone or ndebele, brick stitch, square stitch, right angle weave. Each has a special texture and feel. Watching a pattern and design grow with its interplay of different colors fascinates me. The process can be very quick, from the simple stringing and knotting of a strand of beads to make a necklace or bracelet, to hours of work done with the tiniest of beads, until the shape and pattern of a design emerges. I have taken classes with beaders such as NanC Meinhardt, Ann Benson, Laura McCabe, Julia Pretl and Bethany Barry. I have also studied color theory with Stephen Quiller. I am certified in Precious Metal Clay, have taken classes in traditional jewelry techniques and in glass bead-making. I have taught at Beads East in Manchester and in Granby at Holcomb Farm.. The pieces I create are my own designs and I have developed instructions for completing many of the pieces. My patterns can be found at beadpatterncentral.com and at AuntieAnnie@etsy.com . The February 2008 issue of Bead & Button included one of the necklaces that I designed I graduated from Trinity College, Hartford in 1971 and worked in both private industry and public service until my retirement in 2006.
