Barb Schmitt

I've always had a love for the natural world and the science that forms it.  As a landscape architect, I get to blend both practicality and design to create both functional and beautiful landscapes. Years ago my personal connection with an arborist unexpectedly opened my world to the art of chainsaw carving.

I have always loved working in 3D and with a chainsaw. I am afforded the focus and freedom to manipulate any piece of wood.  Seeing how a piece develops from a chunk of wood, from an idea, and then directing me to show off its inner beauty, is the process that inspires me to make all sorts of different pieces from abstract to big and little bears, mermaids, dolphins, benches, and more.

It makes me happy to not only work in nature creating art, but also to create pieces that can exist within our landscapes, enhancing the spaces in which we live.
