Michele Equale is the artist behind Horse and Hue Studio, where her oil paintings explore the raw power, tension, and intimacy of the horse. Grounded in a lifelong immersion in the equestrian world, her work is not observational—it is lived, shaped by years of experience with horses and a deep understanding of their physicality and presence.

Equale holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Colorado State University and an MBA from University of Massachusetts Isenberg School of Management and maintains a studio practice in Simsbury, Connecticut. She is an active exhibiting member of the Granby Artists Association, and her work has been shown in exhibitions across Colorado and Connecticut. Most recently she was honored to present an exhibition at the Town & County Club, marking the debut of her Sunday Afternoon Polo Series.

Her paintings are defined by instinct—assertive brushwork, charged color, and a refusal to sentimentalize her subject. Each piece captures the tension between control and surrender, discipline and freedom, revealing the quiet, exacting dialogue between horse and rider.

At the core of her work is a sustained exploration of the horse as both stabilizing force and creative muse, and of the profound, often wordless connection between human and animal—an intertwining of energy, trust, and awareness. Alongside her studio practice, Equale is committed to women’s empowerment, intellectual exploration, and the pursuit of an independent, sustainable life in the arts.
