Sally Sargent Markey
An artist sees the surrounding world through life experiences.
I grew up walking home from school noticing plants growing by the country wayside, the beautiful old stone walls slowly being reclaimed by the forest, and the varied moods of nature in eastern Connecticut. After college I worked for Hallmark Cards in Kansas City, Missouri for five years before moving back to New England. I have been working as a freelance artist ever since.
Over the years I’ve found that the lines between abstract fine art, crafts, and illustration seem very arbitrary. I try to use principles of composition, rhythms, and color learned in school in all my work, be it abstract, craft-related, or detailed botanical illustration.
My work today is a melding of all the things I love.
